What to Expect From Broadband Light

Step 1: Consultation

During your consultation, we will examine your skin and listen to your concerns. Based on this information, we will tailor your plan for broadband light therapy.

Step 2: Treatment

During your treatment, you’ll wear protective eyewear to shield your eyes from the intense light. We will first apply a topical gel to the treatment area and then move the laser device over your skin.

Step 3: Results

You can expect to see initial results about 2 weeks after your treatment, but the exact nature and timeline of results will depend on your skin type, the area being treated, and the number of sessions.

What Broadband Light Treats

BBL uses pulses of intense broad-spectrum light, which can be filtered and adjusted to address your specific skin needs. In addition to improving skin texture and tone, broadband light therapy treats the following.

Care Instructions

Pre-Care Instructions

  • For 4 weeks leading up to your appointment, avoid sun exposure, tanning beds, and sunless tanner in the treatment area.
  • 2 weeks prior to treatment, avoid injectables, chemical peels, and other laser treatments.
  • Avoid photosensitizing and topical medications (including retinols) for 7 days before your appointment.
  • Avoid blood-thinning medications and supplements, such as aspirin and ibuprofen, before your appointment. Consult your primary care provider before discontinuing any medication.
  • Before your appointment, shave or clip any dark hair present in the area.

Post-Care Instructions

  • For the first 1 to 3 days, avoid heat, hot tubs, saunas, or strenuous activities that could cause you to sweat.
  • For at least a week after treatment, avoid all sun exposure and tanning beds. Wear sunscreen (SPF 30+) while outdoors.
  • Avoid scrubbing or exfoliating your skin for 1 to 2 weeks after treatment. Allow the pigmented spots to turn over and flake off naturally.
