What to Expect From Chemical Peels

Step 1: Consultation

During your consultation, we will ask you about your skincare routines, concerns, and goals. With this information, your provider will tailor your chemical peel to you and your lifestyle.

Step 2: Treatment

You will sit back and relax while we cleanse your skin and then apply the chemical peel solution. You may feel some warmth and mild stinging as the chemical peel penetrates the layers of dead skin.

Step 3: Results

Your skin will finish peeling over the next 5 to 7 days. Once it completely recovers, you’ll enjoy your newly radiant complexion for months! For the best results, we usually recommend a series of 3 sessions.

What Chemical Peels Treat

Depending on your personal concerns, your Total Skin provider will recommend a specific type and depth of chemical peel. Chemical peels treat a wide range of skin conditions, including the following:

Care Instructions

Pre-Care Instructions

  • Don’t use tanning beds, and avoid direct sunlight without sunscreen that’s SPF 30 or greater.
  • Stop using exfoliants or retinoid products for a week before your treatment.
  • Let your provider know if you have taken Accutane within the past year.

Post-Care Instructions

  • Treat your skin gently. Keep the treatment area moisturized and avoid harsh products for 7 to 10 days.
  • Avoid tanning beds and direct sunlight for 1 to 2 weeks. When outside, wear sunscreen that’s SPF 30 or greater.
  • Allow your skin to peel naturally—don’t pick or pull at it.
