Dysport Injection

What is Dysport?

Dysport is a cosmetic injection that blocks signals to the nerves that cause your facial muscles to contract. This effect relaxes and smooths wrinkles and fine lines that are caused by repetitive muscle movements. Dysport can relax tight neck bands so they are less pronounced. It can also be used to help balance facial asymmetry.

What type of wrinkles does Dysport treat?

There are two kinds of wrinkles.
  • Static wrinkles are caused by loss of facial volume, allowing skin to sag.
  • Dynamic wrinkles are the result of often-repeated facial expressions. Imagine how many times a day you pull your eyebrows together into a frown, or squint to read fine print. Skin is creased each time. As we grow older, skin loses its ability to recover from muscle activity.
Dysport helps the appearance of Dynamic wrinkles. The most common areas for Dysport include:
  • Between the eyebrows
  • Forehead
  • Around the eyes
When administered by a trained, licensed professional, Dysport results are subtle, and your facial movements will continue to look natural.

Am I a good candidate for Dysport injections?

If you are in good general health, and you are developing lines and wrinkles due to everyday facial movements as you age, you are probably a good candidate for Dysport. Occasionally, Dysport is recommended as a preventive measure for younger patients who are likely to develop lines and wrinkles.

If you have wrinkles caused by the weakening of soft tissue rather than by repeated muscle movements, your provider may recommend dermal fillers, a fat transfer, or another procedure for best results. Creases along the sides of your mouth, for example, may not respond to Dysport injections.

Does Dysport hurt?

You may feel some very mild discomfort during your injections; this is often described as a pinching sensation and is usually short-lived.

How many injections will I need?

This depends on your unique goals and the needs of your skin. Your provider will discuss your treatment goals to determine how many units of Dysport you need in one treatment.

How quickly does Dysport work?

Dysport has the fastest onset of the neuromodulators we use. You can expect visible change within about 24 hours of injection, and results that last up to four months. By reducing the frequency and intensity of muscle contractions, maintenance treatment helps to prevent the formation of deep, etched in lines as you age. An increasing number of younger patients are taking advantage of neuromodulators for “prejuvenation,” rather than waiting for wrinkles to form and then treating them.
